Action words, also known as verbs, are words that describe what someone or something is doing. For example, 'run', 'jump', and 'swim' are all action words. Today, we will learn how to recognize these words and use them in sentences. We will also act out some of these actions to make learning fun!

Let's look at some sentences together. For example, in the sentence 'The dog runs fast,' the action word is 'runs.' Can you see how it tells us what the dog is doing? Now, let's try another one: 'The cat jumps high.' Here, 'jumps' is the action word. We can underline these words to highlight them in our sentences.

Now it's your turn! I will say an action word, and I want you to act it out. For example, if I say 'dance,' show me how you would dance. After you act it out, we will all say the action word together. This will help us remember the words better and understand what they mean.

For your independent practice, I want you to draw a picture of yourself doing an action, like 'running' or 'jumping.' Then, write a sentence about your picture using an action word. For example, if you draw yourself jumping, you could write, 'I am jumping.' This will help you practice using action words in your writing.
