Today, we will learn about the sounds that letters make. Each letter of the alphabet has a unique sound. For example, the letter 'A' sounds like 'ah' and the letter 'B' sounds like 'buh'. Understanding these sounds helps us read and write words. Let's listen carefully to some words and identify their starting sounds.

Let's take the word 'cat'. The first sound we hear is 'c'. Can anyone tell me which letter makes the 'c' sound? That's right! It's the letter 'C'. Now, let's try another word. What about 'dog'? The first sound is 'd'. Who can tell me which letter makes that sound? Yes, it's the letter 'D'.

Now, I will say a word, and I want you to tell me the first sound you hear. For example, if I say 'fish', you should say 'f'. Let's practice together. I will say a few words: 'sun', 'hat', 'ball'. After each word, I will ask you to repeat the first sound. Remember to listen carefully!

For your independent practice, you will receive a worksheet with pictures of different objects. Next to each picture, there will be a blank space for you to write the letter that matches the initial sound of the object.
