Today, we will learn about the sounds that letters make. Each letter has its own sound, and when we put these sounds together, we can form words. For example, the letter 'B' makes the sound /b/, and when we say 'bat', we hear the /b/ sound at the beginning. Let's listen to some words and identify their starting sounds together.

Let's look at some pictures. I will show you a picture of a cat. What sound do you hear at the beginning of 'cat'? Yes, it's /k/. Now, let's try another one. Here is a picture of a dog. What sound does 'dog' start with? That's right, it's /d/. By identifying these sounds, we can learn to read and write better.

Now, we will play a sound matching game. I will say a sound, and you will have to find the letter that matches that sound. For example, if I say /m/, you will look for the letter 'M'. Let's do this together a few times. After that, I will give you some pictures, and you will tell me the initial sounds of those words.

For your independent practice, I want you to choose five letters from the alphabet. Write each letter on your paper and say the sound it makes out loud. Then, think of a word that starts with each letter and draw a small picture of that word next to it. This will help you remember the sounds and letters better.
