Today, we will learn about rhymes! Rhymes are words that sound the same at the end. For example, 'cat' and 'hat' rhyme because they both end with the 'at' sound. We will listen to some fun rhymes and try to find more words that rhyme with them. Rhyming helps us with reading and speaking!
Let’s start with a simple rhyme: 'The cat sat on the mat.' Can anyone tell me what words rhyme in this sentence? Yes! 'Cat' and 'mat' rhyme. Now, let’s think of more words that rhyme with 'cat.' How about 'bat' and 'rat'? Great job! Let’s write these words on the board and say them together.
Now, I will say a word, and I want you to shout out a word that rhymes with it. Ready? The first word is 'dog.' What rhymes with 'dog'? Yes, 'frog'! Let’s keep going. Next word: 'sun.' What rhymes with 'sun'? Excellent! 'Run.' Let’s do a few more together, and then we will make a fun rhyme as a class.
Now it’s your turn! I want you to think of a word and draw a picture of something that rhymes with it. For example, if you choose 'tree,' you could draw a 'bee.' Once you finish your drawing, we will share our rhymes with the class. Remember to say your word and the rhyming word out loud!
