isiNdebele First Additional Language - Term 1 - Week 3

Today, we will learn about different animals in isiNdebele. Animals are important in our lives and culture. We will focus on names of common animals such as 'inja' (dog), 'ikati' (cat), 'ingulube' (pig), 'ibhubesi' (lion), and 'inyoni' (bird). I will show you pictures of these animals and we will practice saying their names together.

Let’s look at some examples. When I say 'inja', you will say 'woof' because that is the sound a dog makes. Similarly, when I say 'ikati', you will say 'meow'. This helps us remember the names of the animals and their sounds in isiNdebele. Let’s practice this together with the pictures I have prepared.

Now, I will divide you into small groups. Each group will receive a set of animal pictures and their names in isiNdebele. Your task is to match the pictures with the correct names. Once you finish, we will come together as a class to share what you have learned. Remember to say the names out loud!

For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal and write its name in isiNdebele underneath. You can use the vocabulary we learned today. After you finish your drawing, we will have a gallery walk where you can show your work to your classmates and tell them about your animal.
