Let’s look at some sentences in isiNdebele. In the sentence 'Umama uhlala eMakhado', 'umama' (mother) is a noun, and 'eMakhado' (in Makhado) is a place. Another example is 'Ibhokisi likhulu', where 'ibhokisi' (box) is the noun. Notice how nouns help us understand who or what we are talking about.

(Answer: 'Uthanda' is the subject, but 'izinja' (dogs) is the noun.) Let’s try another one: 'UThandi uthenga izithelo'. What are the nouns here? (Answer: 'izithelo' (fruits)).
