Today, we will learn about different places in our community, such as 'isikolo' (school), 'indawo yokuthenga' (shopping place), and 'ibhanki' (bank). We will also talk about the people we find in these places, like 'utitshala' (teacher) and 'umthengisi' (shopkeeper). Understanding these words will help us describe our surroundings better.
Let’s look at some pictures of places in our community. For example, here is a picture of a school. What do we call this in isiXhosa? Yes, it is 'isikolo'. Now, can anyone tell me what we might find at 'isikolo'? That's right! We find 'utitshala' and 'abafundi' (students).
In groups, let’s create a community map. Each group will draw a place in our community and label it in isiXhosa. For example, if your group draws a park, you will write 'ipaki'. Afterward, each group will present their map to the class, explaining what they drew and who works there.
Now, I want each of you to write three sentences about a place in your community. Use the vocabulary we learned today. For example, you could write, 'Esi sikolo, kukho utitshala.' (At this school, there is a teacher.) Remember to use your best handwriting and to sound out the words as you write.
