Today, we will learn about izilwane (animals) that we can find at home. Some common animals include inja (dog), ikati (cat), and inyoni (bird). We will look at pictures of these animals and learn how to say their names in isiZulu. Understanding these words will help us talk about our pets and the animals we see around us.
Letβs look at some pictures of animals. For example, if I show you a picture of a dog, I will say, 'Le yinja.' (This is a dog.) Repeat after me. Now, if I show you a cat, I will say, 'Le ikati.' (This is a cat.) Letβs practice saying these words together as a class.
Now, we will play a game of charades. I will divide you into small groups. One person from each group will act out an animal without speaking, while the others guess which animal it is in isiZulu. For example, if someone pretends to be a dog, the others should say, 'Inja!' This will help us remember the names of the animals while having fun.
For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite household animal. Once you finish your drawing, label it in isiZulu. For example, if you draw a cat, write 'Ikati' underneath. You can also write a simple sentence about your animal, like 'Ikati lami liyathanda ukudlala.' (My cat loves to play.)
