isiZulu First Additional Language - Term 4 - Week 2

Today, we will learn about izilwane zasekhaya, or household animals. These are animals that we often see in our homes or in our neighborhoods. Some examples include 'inja' (dog), 'ikati' (cat), and 'inkunzi' (cow). We will practice saying their names and using them in sentences.

Let’s look at some sentences. For instance, 'Inja iyadlala' means 'The dog is playing.' Another example is 'Ikati liphila kahle,' which translates to 'The cat is healthy.' Notice how we use the names of the animals in our sentences.

Now, let’s work together! I will show you pictures of different animals. When you see a picture, shout out the name in isiZulu. After that, we will create sentences together. For example, if I show you a picture of a dog, you will say 'inja' and then we can say 'Inja iyaphuma' which means 'The dog is going out.'

For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite household animal. After you finish your drawing, write a sentence about it in isiZulu. For example, if you draw a cat, you can write 'Ikati lihlala endlini,' meaning 'The cat stays inside the house.'
