Today, we will learn about izilwane (animals) that we can find at home. These include our pets like inja (dog), ikati (cat), and even our farm animals like inkomo (cow) and uhenyukazi (hen). We will listen to a story about these animals and learn their names in isiZulu.
Let’s look at some pictures of animals. For example, here is a picture of a dog. In isiZulu, we say 'inja'. Can anyone tell me what sound a dog makes? Yes, it barks! Now, let’s look at another picture. This is a cat, which we call 'ikati' in isiZulu. What sound does a cat make? Correct, it meows!
I will say the name of an animal in isiZulu, and you will make the sound that animal makes. For example, if I say 'inja', you will bark like a dog. If I say 'ikati', you will meow like a cat. Let’s practice together! Remember to listen carefully and have fun!
Now it’s your turn! I want you to draw your favorite animal that you have at home. Once you finish your drawing, write the name of the animal in isiZulu next to it. For example, if you draw a cat, write 'ikati'. We will share our drawings with the class afterward!
