isiZulu Home Language - Term 1 - Week 4

Today, we will learn about different animals and the sounds they make. Animals are all around us, and each one has a special name in isiZulu. For example, a dog is called 'inja', and a cat is called 'ikati'. We will also learn how to say the sounds these animals make, like 'bark' for a dog and 'meow' for a cat.

Let’s look at some pictures of animals. Here is a picture of a cow. In isiZulu, we say 'inkomo'. What sound does a cow make? Yes, it goes 'moo'. Now, let’s look at a picture of a lion. We call it 'ingonyama' in isiZulu, and it roars. Can you repeat after me? 'Inyoni' for bird, and it chirps. Great job!

Now, I will show you some animal pictures, and I want you to tell me the name of the animal in isiZulu and the sound it makes. For example, if I show you a sheep, you will say 'imvu' and then 'baa'. Let’s do this together! I will show you the first picture, and you will respond with the name and sound.
