Today, we will learn about different animals and the sounds they make in isiZulu. We will start by naming some common animals such as 'inja' (dog), 'kati' (cat), and 'ibhubesi' (lion). Each animal has a unique sound, and we will practice saying these sounds together. For example, a dog says 'bark' which is 'phuma' in isiZulu.
Let’s look at some examples. The isiZulu word for cow is 'inkomo', and it makes a sound 'moo' which is 'phuma' in isiZulu. We can practice this by saying, 'Inkoma iphuma moo'. Let’s repeat this together. Now, let’s try another one: the isiZulu word for sheep is 'imvu', and it says 'baa'. Can anyone tell me how we say that in isiZulu?
Now, let’s play a game! I will say the name of an animal in isiZulu, and you will make the sound that animal makes. For example, if I say 'inja', you will bark like a dog. Let’s see how many animals we can name and sounds we can make together. Remember to raise your hand if you want to share an animal and its sound!
For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal and write its name in isiZulu. Underneath the drawing, write the sound it makes. For example, if you draw a cat, write 'kati' and 'phuma' (meow). Once you are done, we will share our drawings with the class and talk about the animals we chose.
