isiZulu Home Language - Term 2 - Week 6

Today, we will learn about different animals and the sounds they make in isiZulu. We will look at pictures of animals and practice saying their names. For example, 'inja' means dog, and 'kukhala' means it barks. We will also discuss where these animals live and what they eat.

Let’s look at some examples together. When we say 'ikati', which means cat, we can also say 'ikati likhala' to describe the sound it makes, which is 'meow'. Similarly, 'ingulube' means pig, and it goes 'oink'. We will practice these words and sounds as a class.

Now, let’s work in groups. Each group will receive a set of animal pictures. You will take turns to show your picture to the class, say the animal's name in isiZulu, and make the sound it makes. For example, if you have a picture of a cow, you will say 'inkomo' and then say 'moo'. This will help everyone learn and remember the names and sounds.

For your independent work, I want you to draw your favorite animal. Once you have finished your drawing, label it in isiZulu. Write the name of the animal and the sound it makes. For example, if you draw a lion, you will write 'ingwe' and 'roar'. You can also share your drawing with a partner and explain what you drew.
