isiZulu Home Language - Term 4 - Week 3

Today, we will learn about different animals and the sounds they make in isiZulu. Animals are all around us, and each one has a unique sound. For example, a dog is called 'inja' in isiZulu, and it says 'bark' or 'bhu bhu'. We will look at pictures of animals and learn their names together.

Let’s look at some examples. The cow is called 'inkomo' and it says 'moo' or 'mhu mhu'. The cat is 'ikati' and it says 'meow' or 'mya'. We can create a chart with pictures of these animals and write their names and sounds in isiZulu. This will help us remember them better.

Now, we will play a matching game. I will show you pictures of animals, and you will tell me their names in isiZulu. Then, I will ask you to make the sound that the animal makes. For example, if I show you a picture of a chicken ('inkukhu'), you will say 'inkukhu' and then make the sound 'cluck' or 'ku ku'. Let’s do this together!

For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal and write its name in isiZulu. Then, next to your drawing, write the sound that it makes. You can use crayons or markers to make your drawing colorful. Once you are done, we will share our drawings with the class.
