For example, a 'ngwana' is a child, but a 'ntja' is a dog. Let's listen to the sounds these animals make and learn their names!
Let's look at some animals together. When I say 'ntja', can anyone tell me what sound a dog makes? Yes, it barks! Now, how about 'kat'? That's a cat, and it says 'meow'. We can practice these sounds together as a class. Repeat after me: 'ntja' (bark), 'kat' (meow).
Now, I will divide you into small groups. Each group will choose an animal and think about the sound it makes. After a few minutes, each group will share their animal and sound with the class. For example, if your group chooses 'ngwedi' (cow), you will say 'ngwedi' and then make the sound 'moo'. Let's see how many animals we can name!
For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal and write its name in Sepedi. Below the drawing, write the sound that animal makes. For example, if you draw a 'ntja', write 'ntja' and 'bark' underneath. Once you finish, we will share our drawings with the class.
