In this section, we will discuss what a community is and the various places that make up our community, such as schools, hospitals, and shops. We will also talk about the people who work in these places, like teachers, doctors, and shopkeepers. This helps learners understand the importance of each role and how they contribute to our daily lives.
Let's look at some pictures of different places in our community. For example, here is a picture of a school. What do we do at school? We learn! Now, here is a picture of a hospital. What happens there? People go to get better when they are sick. By discussing these examples, learners will begin to associate words with images and understand their meanings.
In pairs, learners will choose a place from our community and role-play what happens there. One learner can pretend to be a teacher in a classroom, while the other can be a student. After a few minutes, they will switch roles. This activity encourages them to use vocabulary related to their community and practice speaking in Sepedi.
Learners will draw a picture of their favorite place in the community and write a simple sentence about it in Sepedi. For example, if they draw a park, they might write, 'Ke rata borai.' This allows them to express their thoughts creatively while reinforcing their vocabulary.
