Sesotho Home Language - Term 4 - Week 5

Today, we will learn about different animals and the sounds they make in Sesotho. We will look at pictures of animals and say their names together. For example, 'ntja' means 'dog', and 'khohlo' means 'cat'. We will also listen to the sounds these animals make and learn how to say those sounds in Sesotho.

Let's look at some examples. The dog says 'bark', which in Sesotho is 'barka'. The cat says 'meow', which we can say as 'meow' too. We will practice saying these words together. I will show you a picture of a cow, and you will tell me its name in Sesotho, which is 'khohlo', and the sound it makes, which is 'moo'.

Now, let's split into small groups. Each group will receive a set of animal pictures. You will take turns picking a picture, saying the animal's name in Sesotho, and making the sound it makes. For example, if you pick a picture of a sheep, you will say 'khohlo' and make the 'baa' sound. This will help us remember the names and sounds of the animals.

For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal. Once you finish your drawing, write its name in Sesotho below the picture. You can also write the sound it makes. After you are done, we will share our drawings with the class and practice saying the names and sounds together.
