siSwati First Additional Language - Term 2 - Week 8

Today, we will learn about different animals in siSwati. Animals are important in our lives and culture. We will focus on names of common animals such as 'inja' (dog), 'kati' (cat), 'phofu' (sheep), 'ngwenya' (crocodile), and 'imvubu' (hippo). I will show you pictures of these animals and say their names in siSwati. Repeat after me to practice the pronunciation.

Let’s look at the animal 'inja'. In siSwati, we say 'inja' for dog. What sound does a dog make? Yes, it barks! Now, let’s try with 'kati'. In siSwati, we say 'kati' for cat. What sound does a cat make? Correct, it meows! We will do this for each animal we learn today.

Now, let’s play a game of charades! I will divide you into small groups. Each group will choose an animal we learned today and act it out without speaking. The other groups will guess the animal in siSwati. This will help us remember the names and sounds of the animals while having fun together!

For our independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal from today’s lesson. After you finish your drawing, write the name of the animal in siSwati underneath it. You can also add the sound that the animal makes. Once you are done, we will share our drawings with the class.
