Today, we will learn about different animals in siSwati. Animals are important in our lives and culture. We will look at pictures of animals and learn their names in siSwati. For example, 'inja' means dog, and 'kukhamba' means cat. We will also listen to the sounds these animals make and learn how to say those sounds in siSwati.
Let’s look at some examples together. If I show you a picture of a cow, we say 'inkunzi' for cow. When we hear a cow, it goes 'moo' which we can say as 'muu' in siSwati. Let’s practice saying these words together: 'inkunzi' and 'muu'. Now, let’s try with a few more animals like 'imvubu' for hippo and 'hayi' for the sound it makes.
Now, I will show you some animal pictures. When I show you a picture, I want you to shout out the name of the animal in siSwati. For example, if I show you a picture of a lion, you should say 'ingwenya'. Let’s do this together! I will show you a picture, and you will respond with the correct siSwati name. Remember to also make the sound that animal makes!
For your independent work, I want you to draw your favorite animal and write its name in siSwati. Then, write a simple sentence about what your animal does. For example, if you draw a dog, you can write 'Inja iyagijima' which means 'The dog runs'. Be creative and use your imagination!
