siSwati Home Language - Term 4 - Week 10

Today, we will learn some new words in siSwati that relate to our families and animals. Words like 'baba' (father), 'mama' (mother), 'umntwana' (child), and 'inja' (dog) are important for us to know. We will practice saying these words together and learn how to use them in sentences.

Let’s look at how we can use our new words in sentences. For example, if we want to say 'My father is here' in siSwati, we say 'Baba wami uphakathi'. Notice how we use 'wami' to mean 'my'. We can also say 'Inja yami iyadlala' which means 'My dog is playing'. Let’s practice saying these sentences together.

Now, I will give you some words, and I want you to help me make sentences. If I say 'mama' and 'umntwana', how can we put these together? Yes! We can say 'Mama uyakhuluma noMntwana', which means 'Mother is talking to the child'. Let’s try a few more examples together as a class.
