Tshivenda Home Language - Term 2 - Week 10

Today, we will learn about different animals in Tshivenda. Animals are important in our lives and we see them every day. We will learn how to say the names of some common animals in Tshivenda, such as 'ndovu' for elephant, 'mbwa' for dog, and 'koni' for cat. We will also discuss where these animals live and what sounds they make.

Let’s look at some examples together. When I say 'ndovu', can anyone tell me what animal that is? Yes, it is an elephant! Elephants make a loud trumpeting sound. Now, let’s try another one. 'Mbwa' means dog. What sound does a dog make? Correct, it barks! We will practice these words and sounds together.

Now, I will divide you into small groups. Each group will choose an animal we learned today. You will act out the animal and make its sound while the rest of the class guesses which animal it is. This will help us remember the names and sounds of the animals in Tshivenda. Remember to use your body to show how the animal moves!

For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal that we learned today. After you finish your drawing, write the name of the animal in Tshivenda next to it. You can use the words we practiced, like 'ndovu', 'mbwa', or 'koni'. Once you are done, we will share our drawings with the class.
