Xitsonga First Additional Language - Term 4 - Week 2

Today, we will learn about different animals in Xitsonga. Animals are an important part of our world, and knowing their names helps us communicate better. We will focus on five common animals: 'ngwena' (crocodile), 'nku' (sheep), 'mbilu' (lion), 'xihlahla' (elephant), and 'xihundla' (rabbit). Let's listen to how these words sound and practice saying them together.

Let's look at the animal 'mbilu' (lion). The lion makes a roaring sound. Can anyone tell me what sound a lion makes? (Encourage responses.) That's right! Now, let's say 'mbilu' together. Repeat after me: mbilu! Great job! We will do this for each animal, practicing their names and sounds.

Now, we will play a matching game! I will show you pictures of the animals we learned about. When I show a picture, I want you to shout out the name in Xitsonga. For example, if I show you a picture of a 'xihundla' (rabbit), you will say 'xihundla'! Let's see how many we can get right together!

For our independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal from the ones we learned today. Once you finish your drawing, label it with its name in Xitsonga. For example, if you draw a 'ngwena' (crocodile), write 'ngwena' next to your picture. Afterward, we will share our drawings with the class!
