Today, we will learn about different animals in Xitsonga. Animals are an important part of our environment and culture. We will focus on names of common animals such as 'ngwedi' (moon), 'nku' (cow), 'xihlahla' (tree), and 'xihlahla' (bird). I will show you pictures of these animals, and together we will say their names in Xitsonga.
Letβs practice using the names of animals in sentences. For example, 'Nku i nyoka' means 'The cow is big.' We can also say, 'Xihlahla i xinyenyana' which means 'The bird is small.' I will write these sentences on the board, and we will read them together.
Now, we will play a matching game. I have cards with pictures of animals and cards with their names in Xitsonga. You will work in pairs to match the pictures with the correct names. Once you have matched them, we will go through the answers together, and you will practice saying the names out loud.
For your independent practice, I want you to draw your favorite animal and write its name in Xitsonga underneath. Then, you will write one sentence about your animal. For example, if you draw a dog, you can write 'Nku i nyoka' (The dog is big). After you finish, we will share our drawings and sentences with the class.
