Xitsonga Home Language - Term 3 - Week 4

Today, we will learn about different animals and the sounds they make. We will start by looking at pictures of animals and saying their names in Xitsonga. For example, 'ngwenya' means crocodile, and 'nku' means cow. We will also listen to the sounds these animals make and try to imitate them.

Let's look at some examples together. When we see a 'ngwenya', we can say, 'Ngwenya u bika hi ndlela ya xihlahla' which means 'The crocodile makes a sound like a splash.' Similarly, a 'nku' says 'mmoo' when it moos. We will practice saying these names and sounds together as a class.

Now, let's work in groups. Each group will receive a set of animal pictures. You will take turns picking a picture, saying the animal's name in Xitsonga, and making the sound it makes. For example, if you pick a 'nku', you will say 'nku' and then moo like a cow. This will help us remember the names and sounds of the animals.

For your independent activity, I want you to draw your favorite animal and write its name in Xitsonga below the drawing. You can also write the sound it makes. Once you finish, we will share our drawings with the class and talk about our favorite animals.
