Today, we will learn about different animals in Xitsonga. Animals are important in our lives and culture. We will focus on names of common animals such as 'nku' (dog), 'xihlahla' (cat), 'ndzhaka' (bird), 'xihundla' (rabbit), and 'nku' (elephant). Each animal has its own sound and characteristics that we will explore together.
Let’s look at some pictures of animals. For example, when I show you a picture of a dog, I will say 'nku'. Can anyone tell me what sound a dog makes? Yes, it barks! Now, let’s do the same with a cat. This is a 'xihlahla', and it says 'meow'. We will repeat this for each animal, ensuring everyone can say the names and sounds.
Now, we will play a game! I will make the sound of an animal, and you will guess which animal it is in Xitsonga. For example, if I say 'meow', you should respond with 'xihlahla'. Let’s take turns, and I will encourage you to use the correct Xitsonga names for each animal. This will help us remember the words better.
For our independent activity, I want each of you to draw your favorite animal. Once you finish your drawing, write the name of the animal in Xitsonga below it. For example, if you draw a rabbit, you will write 'xihundla'. Afterward, we will share our drawings with the class and say the names out loud together.
