Reading fluency is the ability to read text smoothly and with expression. It helps us understand what we read better. Today, we will practice reading short stories together. We will focus on how to use our voices to show feelings and meaning in the text. For example, when a character is happy, we can read with a cheerful tone, and when they are sad, we can read softly.

Let's read a short story together called 'The Happy Cat.' As we read, pay attention to how I change my voice. When I say, 'The cat jumped with joy!' I will use an excited voice. After reading, we will discuss how the cat felt at different parts of the story and how we can express those feelings when we read.

Now, it's your turn! In small groups, choose a short story from our reading corner. Each person will take turns reading a page aloud. Remember to use your voice to show the feelings of the characters. After reading, discuss with your group how the characters felt and how you expressed those feelings while reading.

For your independent practice, write three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. For example, if you write, 'The dog is playful,' remember to put a period at the end. After writing, read your sentences aloud to a partner, using expression to show how your animal feels.
