Let's create a short story as a class! I will start with a sentence: 'Once upon a time, there was a little cat named Whiskers.' Now, I will ask you to help me add to the story. What do you think Whiskers did next? Remember to think about where he is and who he meets. We will write down each sentence together, making sure to use capital letters at the beginning and punctuation at the end.

Now it’s your turn! I will give you some words on the board: 'dog', 'run', 'fast'. In pairs, I want you to create a sentence using these words. Think about how you can use punctuation. After a few minutes, we will share our sentences with the class. Remember to listen carefully to your friends and think about how they use punctuation.

For your independent practice, I want you to write your own short story. Use the prompt: 'A day at the park.' Think about what you see, hear, and do at the park. Write at least three sentences. Don’t forget to use capital letters and punctuation. Once you finish, you can draw a picture to go with your story. I will walk around to help you if you need it!
