Today, we will explore new words that we can use in our sentences. Vocabulary is important because it helps us express our thoughts clearly. Let’s look at the sentence: 'The cat sat on the mat.' We can see that it has a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end. Now, let’s change it to: 'The dog sat on the mat.' Notice how we still keep the same structure but change the word 'cat' to 'dog'. This is how we can play with words to create new sentences!
Now, I will give you a few words: 'sun', 'run', 'fun'. Let’s create a sentence together using these words. Who can help me make a sentence? (Encourage students to suggest sentences like 'The sun is fun to run in.') Remember to start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. Let’s write it on the board together.
For your independent practice, I want you to choose three words from the word bank on the board. Write your own sentence using those words. Make sure to check that your sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. After you finish, you can draw a picture that represents your sentence.
