Punctuation marks are symbols that help us understand sentences better. For example, a full stop (.) tells us when a sentence ends, while a question mark (?) shows that someone is asking something. Today, we will learn how to use these marks correctly in our writing.
Let's look at the sentence: 'the cat is sleeping' without punctuation. It needs a full stop at the end to show that it is a complete thought. So, we write it as 'The cat is sleeping.' Notice how we also start with a capital letter. Let's practice correcting more sentences together.
I will give you a short paragraph with mistakes. As a class, we will read it together. Then, we will discuss what needs to be changed. For example, if we see 'the dog barked loudly' without a full stop, we will add it. After that, each group will get a different paragraph to edit and present their corrections to the class.
Now it's your turn! Write three sentences about your favorite animal. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation. After writing, swap your paper with a partner and check each other's work for any mistakes. Make sure to look for punctuation and spacing!
