Today, we will learn about creative writing! Creative writing allows us to express our thoughts and ideas in fun ways. We can write stories, poems, or even short sentences about things we love. We will start by discussing what creative writing means and how we can use our imagination to create interesting texts.
Let’s create a sentence together! I will say a word, and you will help me add more words to make a complete sentence. For example, if I say 'The cat', you can add 'is sleeping on the mat.' So our sentence becomes 'The cat is sleeping on the mat.' Notice how we used a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end. Let's try another one together!
Now, I will give you a picture of a dog. I want you to think about what the dog might be doing. In pairs, discuss your ideas and then write a sentence about the dog. Remember to start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. After writing, we will share our sentences with the class.
For your independent practice, I want you to write a short story about your favorite animal. Think about what your animal does and where it lives. Write at least three sentences. Remember to use correct punctuation and spacing. Once you finish, draw a picture of your animal to go with your story. We will display these in the classroom!
