Reading fluency is the ability to read a text smoothly and with expression. Today, we will read a short story together. As we read, pay attention to how the words flow and how we can use our voices to show feelings. Good readers use punctuation marks to help them know when to pause and when to change their tone.

Let's read the story 'Uthando Lwethu' together. As I read, listen for the punctuation marks. When I see a full stop, I will pause. When I see a question mark, I will change my voice to sound curious. After reading, we will discuss how the characters felt and what the story was about.

Now, we will split into small groups. Each group will take turns reading a paragraph from the story. Remember to use your voice to express the emotions of the characters. After each group reads, we will discuss what they think the characters are feeling and why. This will help us understand the story better.

For independent practice, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite part of the story. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. After writing, you will illustrate your sentences with a drawing. This will help you connect your thoughts with your writing.
