Punctuation marks are important in writing because they help us understand the meaning of sentences. Today, we will learn about full stops (.), question marks (?), and exclamation marks (!). A full stop tells us that a sentence has ended. A question mark is used when we ask something, and an exclamation mark shows strong feelings. Let's look at some examples together.
Let's create a sentence together. If I say, 'The dog runs', we can add a full stop at the end to make it complete: 'The dog runs.'. Now, if I want to ask a question, I can say, 'Is the dog happy?'. Notice how the question mark changes the meaning. Let's practice writing these sentences on the board.
Now, I will give you some words, and I want you to help me make sentences. For example, if I say 'cat', 'play', and 'the', you can help me say, 'The cat plays.' Remember to add a full stop at the end. After we create the sentences, we will read them out loud together, paying attention to our punctuation.
It's your turn to write! I want you to write three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. After you finish, share your sentences with a partner and check if they have used punctuation correctly. This will help you learn from each other.
