Reading fluency is the ability to read smoothly and with expression. It helps us understand the story better. Today, we will read a short story together and practice reading it aloud. I will demonstrate how to read with expression by changing my voice for different characters and using pauses at the right places.

Let's read the story 'Uthando Lwethu' together. As we read, I will point out how to use different tones for the characters. For example, when the character is happy, I will read with a cheerful voice, and when the character is sad, I will use a softer voice. After reading, we will discuss how the characters felt and how we can express those feelings when we read.

Now, I will divide you into small groups. Each group will choose a short text to read aloud. As you read, pay attention to how you can use your voice to show the feelings of the characters. After your group finishes reading, share with the class how you expressed the characters' emotions and what punctuation marks helped you know where to pause.

For your independent practice, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite animal. Use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. After writing, read your sentences aloud to a partner, using expression to show how your animal feels. Remember to use capital letters at the beginning of each sentence and punctuation at the end.
