We will also learn how to use punctuation marks like full stops and question marks to make our writing clear.
Let’s look at some examples of sentences. For instance, 'Ngithanda ukudlala ibhola.' (I love to play soccer.) This sentence has a clear meaning and ends with a full stop. Another example is 'Uphi umngane wakho?' (Where is your friend?) This sentence asks a question and ends with a question mark. Notice how punctuation helps us understand the sentences better.
Now, let’s write a sentence together. I will say a sentence, and you will repeat it after me. 'Ngiyahamba esikoleni.' (I am going to school.) Great! Now, let’s add a question. 'Uphi uMama?' (Where is Mom?) Can anyone tell me why we use a question mark at the end of the second sentence? Yes, it shows that we are asking something. Let’s practice writing these sentences on our boards.
Now it’s your turn! Think of something you love, like a pet or a favorite game. Write two sentences about it. Remember to use correct punctuation. For example, if you love your dog, you might write, 'Ngithanda uBobby.' (I love Bobby.) and 'Uphi uBobby?' (Where is Bobby?) After writing, share your sentences with a partner and read them aloud.
