Reading fluency is the ability to read text smoothly and with expression. Today, we will read a short story together. As we read, pay attention to how the words flow and how we can use our voices to express different feelings. Good readers use punctuation marks to help them know when to pause or change their tone.

Let's read a short story titled 'Uthando Lwezingane' (The Love of Children). As I read, listen for the punctuation marks. When I pause at a comma, I take a short breath. When I reach a full stop, I stop completely. After reading, we will discuss how the characters might feel at different points in the story.

Now, we will read the story together as a class. I will point to each word, and you will follow along. After each sentence, I will ask you how you think the character feels. For example, if the character is happy, we might read that part with a cheerful voice. Let's practice using our voices to show those feelings!
