A sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought. In Sepedi, just like in English, we use punctuation marks to help us understand sentences better. The most common punctuation marks are the full stop (.), question mark (?), and exclamation mark (!). Today, we will learn how to use these marks correctly at the end of our sentences.
Let's look at some examples of sentences. 'Ke rata go bala.' (I like to read.) is a simple sentence that ends with a full stop. If we want to ask a question, we can say, 'O rata go bala?' (Do you like to read?) which ends with a question mark. Lastly, if we want to express excitement, we can say, 'Ke thabile!' (I am happy!) which ends with an exclamation mark.
Now, let's practice together. I will say a sentence, and you will help me decide which punctuation mark to use. For example, if I say, 'O kae' (Where are you), what punctuation should we use? Yes, a question mark! Let's try another one: 'Ke a thaba' (I am happy). What do you think? Correct, a full stop! Keep listening as we practice more sentences together.
