Punctuation marks are important in writing because they help us understand how to read sentences. For example, a full stop (.) tells us to pause, while a question mark (?) shows that a sentence is asking something. Today, we will learn how to use these marks correctly in our sentences.
Let’s look at this sentence: 'ngwana o a etela mošate' (the child visits the palace). It needs a full stop at the end. The correct sentence is 'ngwana o a etela mošate.' Now, let’s add a question mark to this sentence: 'o etela mošate' (does he visit the palace?). It should be 'o etela mošate?'.
In groups, we will read a short story together. As we read, I want you to listen carefully for punctuation marks. When you hear a full stop or a question mark, raise your hand. After reading, we will discuss where the punctuation was used and why it is important.
