Let’s look at a simple story: 'Mpho o na le ntja e ntle.' (Mpho has a beautiful dog.) In this story, we have a character (Mpho) and a setting (his home). Now, let’s add more details. What does Mpho do with his dog? How does the dog look? We can say, 'Mpho o bapala le ntja ea hae.' (Mpho plays with his dog.) This adds action to our story!

Now, let’s work together to create our own short story. I will ask you questions to help us build our story. What is the name of our main character? (Wait for responses.) Great! Now, where does our character live? (Encourage responses.) Let’s write down our ideas on the board. Remember to use correct punctuation and spacing as we write. After we finish, we will read our story together.

It’s your turn to write a short story! Think of your own character and what they like to do. Write at least three sentences about your character. Remember to use capital letters at the beginning of each sentence and a full stop at the end. Once you finish writing, draw a picture of your character and their favorite activity. We will share our stories with the class later.
