For example, a full stop (.) tells us that a sentence has ended, while a question mark (?) shows that someone is asking something. Today, we will learn how to use these marks correctly in our sentences.
Let's look at the sentence: 'Mokhulu o ja.' (Grandfather eats.) This sentence is complete because it has a subject (Mokhulu) and a verb (ja). Now, if we want to ask a question, we can change it to 'Mokhulu o ja?' (Does Grandfather eat?). Notice how we changed the full stop to a question mark. This is how we can edit sentences to change their meaning.
Now, I will give you a sentence: 'Ngwana o bapala.' (The child is playing.) I want you to change this sentence into a question. What punctuation mark will you use? Yes, a question mark! So, it becomes 'Ngwana o bapala?' Let's practice this together. I will write more sentences on the board, and you will help me edit them.
For your independent practice, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. After you write your sentences, read them to a partner and check if they have the right punctuation and spacing. Remember, your sentences should make sense!
