I will model how to read with expression, showing how to change our voice to match the feelings in the story. We will discuss the importance of punctuation, such as commas and periods, in helping us understand how to read sentences correctly.

Let’s read a short story together. The story is about a little bird that learns to fly. As I read, listen for the punctuation marks. When I see a period, I will pause, and when I see an exclamation mark, I will read with excitement! After reading, we will discuss how the bird felt at different parts of the story.

Now, let’s practice reading in pairs. Each pair will choose a short text from our reading corner. Take turns reading to each other. Remember to pay attention to punctuation and use expression in your voice. After you finish, discuss with your partner how the characters might be feeling and why.

For independent practice, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. After writing, read your sentences aloud to a friend or family member, using expression to show how you feel about your animal.
