Let’s read a short story together. 'Once upon a time, there was a little bird named Koko. Koko loved to sing every morning. One day, Koko met a friendly cat who wanted to learn how to sing. They became best friends and sang together every day.' Now, let’s identify the characters (Koko and the cat), the setting (the forest), and the main event (Koko teaching the cat to sing).

Now it’s your turn! Let’s create a short story together. I will ask you questions to help us build our story. What is the name of our main character? (Wait for responses) Great! What does our character like to do? (Wait for responses) Let’s write down our ideas on the board. Remember to use capital letters at the beginning of sentences and punctuation at the end.

Now, I want each of you to write your own short story. You can use the character we created together or come up with your own. Remember to include a beginning, middle, and end. Use proper punctuation and spacing. After you finish writing, draw a picture that goes with your story. We will share our stories with the class at the end of the lesson.
