Today, we will learn about phonics, which is the relationship between sounds and letters. We will focus on the sounds of the letters 'b', 'm', and 't'. I will say each sound, and you will repeat after me. For example, the sound 'b' as in 'bana' (children), 'm' as in 'motswana' (Tswana), and 't' as in 'tlhokomelo' (care).
Let’s build some words together! I will write the letters 'b', 'm', and 't' on the board. Now, let’s create words. For 'b', we can make 'bana'. For 'm', we can make 'molemo' (good). For 't', we can make 'tlhapelo' (prayer). Notice how we use the sounds to form these words.
Now, let’s work in pairs. Each pair will choose a letter from 'b', 'm', or 't' and come up with three words that start with that letter. After you have your words, write them down on your paper. Once you are done, we will share our words with the class. Remember to use correct spacing and punctuation!
For your independent practice, I want you to write three sentences using the words you created in the group activity. Make sure to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with a full stop. After you finish writing, read your sentences to a friend and check if they can understand your message.
