A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. In siSwati, sentences often start with a capital letter and end with a full stop (.), question mark (?), or exclamation mark (!). Today, we will learn how to write sentences correctly and use punctuation to show how we feel or what we are asking.
Let's look at some example sentences: 'Ngiyathanda ukudlala.' (I love to play.) This sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Another example is 'Uphi umngani wakho?' (Where is your friend?) This sentence ends with a question mark because it is asking something. Notice how punctuation helps us understand the meaning of the sentences.
Now, let's write a sentence together. I will say a sentence, and you will help me write it on the board. The sentence is: 'Ngiyafuna isiphuzo.' (I want a drink.) What do we need to start with? Yes, a capital letter! And how do we end it? Correct, with a full stop! Let's write it together and make sure we have the right spacing.
