Punctuation marks are important in writing because they help us understand the meaning of sentences. Today, we will learn about full stops, question marks, and exclamation marks. A full stop is used at the end of a statement, a question mark is used at the end of a question, and an exclamation mark shows excitement or strong feelings.
Let’s look at some sentences together. For example, 'Ngiyathanda ukudlala.' (I love to play) ends with a full stop. 'Uphi umngani wakho?' (Where is your friend?) ends with a question mark. 'Ngiyajabula!' (I am happy!) ends with an exclamation mark. Notice how each punctuation mark changes the meaning of the sentence.
Now, I will give you some sentences, and I want you to tell me which punctuation mark goes at the end. For example, 'Ngiyafuna amanzi' (I want water) should end with a full stop. What about 'Uphi umama?' (Where is mom)? What mark should we use here? Let’s discuss your answers as a class.
