Reading fluency is the ability to read a text smoothly and accurately. It involves recognizing words quickly and understanding their meaning. In this lesson, we will practice reading short stories in Tshivenda, focusing on how to read with expression. Expression means using our voice to show feelings and emotions in the text.

Let's read a short story together. The story is about a little bird that learns to fly. As we read, pay attention to how I change my voice when the bird is happy or scared. For example, when the bird is excited, I will read with a cheerful tone. When it is scared, I will use a softer, slower voice. After reading, we will discuss how the bird felt at different parts of the story.

Now, it's your turn! In small groups, choose a short text from our reading corner. Each student will take turns reading a sentence aloud. Remember to use expression in your voice. After each group finishes, we will come together and share how we felt while reading. Did anyone change their voice? Why did you do that?

For your independent practice, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. After writing, read your sentences to a partner, using expression. How can you show your partner how much you love your animal through your voice?
