Reading fluency is the ability to read text smoothly and accurately. It involves recognizing words quickly and understanding their meaning. Today, we will practice reading short texts together, focusing on how to express emotions and ideas through our voices. We will also learn how to use punctuation marks to help us read with expression.

Let's read a short story together. The story is about a little bird that learns to fly. As we read, pay attention to the punctuation marks. For example, when we see an exclamation mark (!), we should read that part with excitement. When we see a question mark (?), we should change our tone to sound curious. Let's practice reading the first paragraph together, and I will demonstrate how to use my voice to show the feelings of the bird.

Now, it's your turn! In small groups, choose a short text from the reading corner. Take turns reading aloud to each other. Remember to use your voice to show the emotions in the story. After reading, discuss with your group what the story was about and how the characters felt. I will walk around to listen and help you with any difficult words.

For your independent practice, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. For example, if you are excited about your animal, use an exclamation mark. If you are asking a question, use a question mark. After writing, illustrate your sentences with a drawing of your animal. Be prepared to share your sentences with the class!
