Today, we will explore a short story together. Shared reading allows us to read as a group, helping each other understand the text. We will look at the pictures and talk about what we think the story is about before we read it. This is called making predictions. Predictions help us to think about the story and what might happen next.

Let's look at the cover of our story, 'U Mpfuni wa Nhlangano' (The Helper of the Community). What do you see? I see a picture of a child helping others. What do you think this story might be about? (Encourage students to share their thoughts.) Now, let’s read the first page and see if our predictions were correct.

Now, I will read the next part of the story aloud. As I read, listen carefully and think about what is happening. After I finish reading, I will ask you some questions about the story. Remember to raise your hand if you want to share your thoughts or predictions about what might happen next.

After our reading, I want you to think about your favorite part of the story. Write one or two sentences about it. Remember to use capital letters at the beginning of your sentences and a full stop at the end. You can also draw a picture to go with your sentences. When you are done, we will share our sentences with the class.
