A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. In Xitsonga, just like in English, sentences start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark. The most common punctuation marks are the full stop (.), question mark (?), and exclamation mark (!). Today, we will learn how to write sentences correctly and use punctuation to make our writing clear.
Let's look at some examples of sentences. 'Nwa mina u na swikolo.' (My child has toys.) This sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Another example is 'U funa ku dya?' (Do you want to eat?) This sentence ends with a question mark because it is asking something. Notice how each sentence is clear and complete.
Now, let's practice writing sentences together. I will say a sentence, and you will help me write it on the board. For example, I say, 'N'wana u famba.' (The child is walking.) What do we start with? Yes, a capital letter! And how do we end it? Correct, with a full stop! Let's write it together: 'N'wana u famba.' Remember to leave a space between each word.

Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation. After you finish, read your sentences to a partner and check if they have the correct spacing and punctuation.
