Today, we will learn how to use these punctuation marks correctly in our sentences.
Let’s look at a simple sentence: 'Nwa-nkulu u etlela.' (The big child is sleeping.) Notice how we start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. Now, let’s add a comma: 'Nwa-nkulu u etlela, na yena u dya.' (The big child is sleeping, and he is eating.) Here, we used a comma to connect two ideas. Remember, every sentence must start with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation.
I will read a sentence aloud, and you will listen carefully. After I finish, I want you to tell me if the sentence has correct punctuation. For example, I might say, 'Nwa-nkulu u etlela na yena u dya' (The big child is sleeping and he is eating). Does it need a comma or a full stop?
