Let's look at the cover of our story, 'The Lost Puppy.' What do you see? (Show the cover image.) Based on the picture, what do you think the story will be about? (Encourage students to share their thoughts.) For example, if they see a puppy looking sad, a student might predict that the puppy will find its way home. This is how we use clues from the pictures to make predictions.
Now, we will read the first page of 'The Lost Puppy' together. As we read, I want you to think about what might happen next. After reading a paragraph, I will pause and ask you to share your predictions. Remember to listen carefully to your classmates' ideas and build on them. This will help us understand the story better.
After our shared reading, I want you to write your own prediction about what will happen next in the story. Use a complete sentence and remember to start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. For example, 'I think the puppy will find its owner.'
